Crochet workshop: crochet! another skill in the bag!

the lido event. we got amazing feedback from the public, the simplicity of the game meant it was just good fun and really brought the people into the event with a smile. if it wasnt for our games then the event would just be a market of furniture so im quite proud of the work we did.

to play the game all you had to do was stand at the line and through a coloured hoop onto the matching cone if you got three out of the ten hoops we gave you a laser cut keyring

unfortunately we couldn’t make the cones out of foam but this was a brilliant alternative concocted by the team to make a cone shape. also my film couldn’t be used, the lido didn’t offer a good alternative to the televisions they had that went down. so i brought a computer yet due to the lack of it being safe i decided to pull the video. sometimes you have to make decisions like that, it was a shame.

[Flash 10 is required to watch video]

i had to make a film for the brockwell lido film for the team. seeing as the event was olympic film i got hold of some old footage and put it together quite simply. i then went searching for music hits from the time, I’m a big fan of jazz so i had to put my mark on this video. the footage is from the last time england hosted the olympics in 1948 some of the footage is amateur others official. (video shorter for uploading reasons)

We came up with a game called the Kotinos game. Kotinos is greek for wreath, athletes would have been given these instead of a medal during the ancient greek olympic games. our idea was that we have 5 cones, you throw a hoop over the cone and if you get enough you can win a keyring.

Lido Project

Brockwell Lido is a building from the british modernism period, a very attractive outdoor swimming pool. Every year the Lido holds an event called the modern movement, this event is a fair of vintage furniture and fun. Camberwell 3DD students were invited to come up with some games/activities that support the event in the theme of the olympics 2012. our team came up with the idea of making a kind of hoopla where the player can win a keyring.

vector work files for the lido project. the first design is a keyring that could be given out at the end, the second and third photos are renderings of a foam cone

unfinished clock, due to working at the olympics i never got to finally finish the disks and casing. i think the idea and design was sound but production can be very hard with limited materials funding and machinery. maybe next time send it away to be made if its too complicated.

The next stage of the clock project

3c clock idea- calm collected and composed

a clock that removes the anxiety of time from day to day

at normal glance you see the rough hour time but then if need be you can approach the clock closer and see the minutes. the clock interacts with corners and mantles becoming part of the environment.

materials and form needs to be considered to take this model to the next stage

model for a clock. Trying to make a clock thats more ambient, allowing the anxiety of time to be removed from the home. An ideal clock to finish with would be a clock that is vague at first glance yet accurate when needed.
CLOCK PROJECT: this project has a very strict brief but this stops us designing in a way that leaves us in the clouds. The clock needs to have analog parts, needs to run from a AA battery and will be sold to a buyer at 20 pounds per unit. The clock will then retail at up to 75 pounds.

WE took control of the room and created a better working space where no one looks at a wall and everyone has more table space, this promotes discussion over work.

so many cheap clocks

so much wasted time

LAST update to 50 words- Amplifier (the appreciation of the spring)

A spring is a small, unappreciated object disregarded by a consumer. My Amplifier aims to make the consumer have a better relationship with their objects. A new vision of what an amplifier looks like with a mask of quality, tricking the consumer to caring and loving their object. The end product creates appreciation and decreases obsolescence

50 Words on my prototype amplifier ‘the appreciation of the spring’

Think of the smallest yet most complex part of the objects used everyday. The spring requires more appreciation, my prototype aims to bring quality and a relationship to the user. The amplifier is a product of trickery, it appears expensive, it becomes friends with the consumer to stop obsolescence and increases appreciation.
